This policy explains what personal data the Newmi iPhone and iPad app and this website handle. The Android app is not yet released; this policy will be updated before it is.
Who is responsible
Newmi, the publisher of the Newmi app and this website. Contact: support@newmi.app.
The short version
- You can read Newmi without an account.
- If you sign in, we store your account, saved stories, reading history and followed topics, publishers and subjects so they follow you across devices.
- Summaries are written on your device. Article text is not sent to an AI service.
- This website uses no analytics or advertising trackers. It sets no cookies unless you sign in or choose interests, and then only a strictly necessary sign-in cookie or a small preference cookie. Story images and videos load from the publishers’ own servers.

To show you stories, our website server asks the Newmi API for editions, coverage and search results, and sends it any search you type and, on the Following page, the topics, publishers and subjects you chose. Those choices are kept in a preference cookie in your browser for up to a year (no account). Who receives data
- Apple (sign-in, notifications, weather, subscriptions).
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications, and AdMob for ads where you consent).
- OpenAI, only if you choose to sign in with ChatGPT, to verify your identity.
- Our hosting providers, who process data on our behalf.
We do not sell personal data.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept until you delete your account. You can clear your reading history in the app at any time. When you delete your account we delete your saved stories, reading history, follows and notification registration. Until in-app deletion is available, email support@newmi.app and we will do it. Backups are removed on their normal schedule.
Your rights
If the GDPR applies to you, you can ask us for access to your data, correction, deletion, a portable copy, restriction, and you can object to processing based on our legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device or app settings. To use these rights, email support@newmi.app. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Cyprus this is the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.
Children
Newmi is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Security
We protect data as described on our Security page. No system is perfectly secure.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
